A Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native, Dr. Bowman, who graduated from Spelman College in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, considers Atlanta to be her second home. Upon receiving her degree, she returned to Philadelphia to complete a Masters in Biological Science at MCP Hahnemann University before heading to Boston University School of Medicine, where she earned her Medical Degree. Dr. Bowman eventually found her way back to Atlanta for surgical training at Morehouse School of Medicine. Following her general surgery residency, Dr. Bowman completed a Breast Surgical Oncology Fellowship at Emory University School of Medicine.
Dr. Bowman is board certified by the American Board of Surgery. She is a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons. Dr. Bowman has been nominated by her peers and colleagues as an Atlanta “Top Doctor” annually since 2020. Additionally, Dr. Bowman was named one of “Atlanta’s Most Influential Women in Medicine” in 2019 and 2020 and “Influential Atlantans in Medicine” in 2024. She has also been included on Castle Connolly’s list of “Top Black Doctors” since 2023. Dr. Bowman currently serves as a member of the Oncology Governance Council for Piedmont Healthcare which provides executive guidance of system initiatives as it pertains to cancer care. She previously served on the Board of Directors for the Susan G. Komen Atlanta affiliate.
She prides herself on her bedside manner, often spending extra time with patients as well as consistently making herself available beyond office hours by providing patients with her cell phone number. Her efforts, along with her inviting smile, help ensure patients feel at ease, despite their breast cancer diagnosis.
In her free time, Dr. Bowman enjoys spending time with her husband, their two children and their French bulldog. She also enjoys traveling and exercising.
